Overview

  • Lineage 2 Essence is famous for its PvP. There are several ways to test your strength against other players. You can take part in sieges or clan wars, or you can just attack someone (or be attacked) in zones where PvP is allowed.
  • Keep in mind, there are two different mechanics to start an attack on another character. The choice between them depends on the attacked character's status and a place where you are going to fight:
    Conditions Attack type
    Zones
    Sieges, clan wars Basic attack
    Peaceful zones
    Special zones where PvP isn't allowed
    Unable to attack
    Fields
    Combat zones
    Special zones where PvP is allowed
    Basic attack (if the attacked character's name is purple or red)
    or
    Forced attack (if the attacked character's name is white):
    • pressing Ctrl ;
    • using the /attackforce and /useskillforce commands;
    • enabling combat mode.
    Attacked character's status
    Non-hostile (white name) Forced attack:
    • pressing Ctrl ;
    • using the /attackforce and /useskillforce commands;
    • enabling combat mode.

    Hostile (purple name)
    Chaotic (red name)

    Basic attack
  • To initiate a forced attack, press Ctrl and click on your target. Also, you can hold Ctrl and use your skills. If you have turned the combat mode on, you are free to attack other characters without pressing Ctrl. To learn more, see: Combat Mode .
    • If your enemy's name is purple (a hostile character) or red (a chaotic character), you can hit them with basic attacks without using Ctrl or turning the combat mode on.
    • You can fight other characters only out of peaceful zones.
  • A player who has killed a non-hostile character (white-named) becomes PK (Player Killer).
  • When you kill defenseless characters, you get negative reputation and PK status. Your name is going to be dark-red if your fame is low, or bright-red if your fame is high.
  • There are no penalties when you attack or kill hostile characters.
  • PK gets drawbacks that make their game process harder.
    • Most of NPC don't want to talk and trade with chaotic characters.
    • Town guards are going to attack these characters as soon as they see them. Only NPC of Floran Village don't mind speaking to chaotic characters.
    • Once PK uses resurrection or teleportation, they are transferred to the nearest town.
    • Chaotic characters get the Einhasad Overseeing debuff. To learn more, see: Death Consequences .
  • Information about reputation, PK and PvP can be found in the Social section in the lower part of the Character Status window (Alt+T).
  • You can restore your reputation while hunting, also you can complete the Brothers Bound in Chains quest to decrease your PK points.

Combat Mode

  • When the combat mode is on, you don't need to press Ctrl or use the /attackforce and /useskillforce commands to attack another character or use skills against them.
    • You cannot attack your party/clan/command channel members in this mode (except for chaotic and hostile characters).
  • To turn the mode on or off, use a special button in the Action or Auto-hunting window. Also, you can type the /combatmode command in your chat. Once you've turned the combat mode on, the panel in the upper left corner of your screen becomes red, also a red sword appears below your level value.
  • When you come to a peaceful zone, your status remains unchanged, but the combat mode turns off so you can speak to NPC.

Combat Points

  • CP (Combat Points) give you additional defense when you are attacked by another player. The CP bar shows how strong your defensive barrier is and how long it can protect you before you start losing HP. You can see its orange line in the Character Status window (Alt+T) and above your HP in the panel in the upper left corner of your screen.
  • If you hit other characters (as well as their pets or servitors), they also lose CP first. When they have no more combat points, they start losing HP.
  • CP is recovered over time, the same as HP. The amount of CP depends on a character's class and level.

Status and Reputation Change

  • A character's actions during PvP determine the color of their name as well as reputation change:
Player A Action Player B Results (for Player A) Reputation change
White Attack White Purple > White* No
White Kill White Red Yes
White Attack Purple Purple > White* No
White Attack or Kill Red White No
Purple Kill White Red Yes
Purple Kill Purple Purple > White* No
Red Kill White Red Yes
Red Kill Purple Red No

*The > mark means a temporary status change. For instance, white-named Player A hits white-named Player B, but doesn't kill them. In this case, Player A's name becomes purple for a few seconds and then switches to white again.

  • The item drop penalty is applied to all equipment that can be used by characters, i.e. weapons, armor, accessories.
    • Items in your inventory as well as equipped ones can be dropped.
    • Sealed items can be lost too.
    • Time-limited items are protected from dropping.
    • Non-equippable items (scrolls, potions, etc.) cannot be dropped as well.
  • Items lost due to the penalty are moved to a special 'Lost items' inventory; they can be used again after paying a fee.
  • In the 'Lost items' inventory, you can see item names, their enchant values, drop time and redemption fees (in L-Coins and adena).
  • To see the list of lost items, click the Item Recovery notification icon in the notification menu in the bottom right corner of your screen or go to the main menu (Alt+X) and open the Item Recovery window.
  • The special inventory contains up to 10 items. If you drop more, the items lost before that will be deleted forever .
  • Lost items are returned after paying a fee in adena or L-Coins; the more lost items you have, the higher the fee.
  • When paying the item restoration fee in adena, a part of it is sent by mail to the character that defeated you in PvP. If you pay the fee in L-Coins, your killer gets nothing.
  • When something is dropped because of the penalty, a special animation is shown: an item that looks exactly like the lost one falls to the ground and a pillar of light appears, its color depending on the item type. The dropped item cannot be picked up using the /pickup command, and it disappears in 10 sec.
