Dyes are items that serve as ingredients for carving symbols (also referred to as tattoos). They are split into two categories, ordinary Dyes and Greater Dyes. Every Dye increases and decreases the value of two basic Stat values marked by (+) and (-) on the Dye's name respectively. Ordinary Dyes can be used as ingredients for carving symbols following the first class transfer, but not after the second class transfer has been completed. Conversely, Greater Dyes can only be used by characters who have completed their second class transfer.
Chracters of level 20 or above have slots in their inventory where symbols can be engraved using Dyes. Characters that have not completed their first class transfer cannot engrave symbols. Once the first class transfer has been completed, two symbol slots will become vailable. Following the second class transfer, an additional slot will be enabled, allowing for a total of three symbols to be engraved. Furthermore, the symbols that were affixed prior to the second class transfer lose their effect when they character completes the second class transfer.
When a character owns enough units of a specific Dye and wishes to engrave a symbol, they must speak to a Symbol Maker NPC. Symbol Makers charge a fixed fee to carve symbols. Carving a symbol consumes the Dye used as ingredient.
Symbols cannot be used to increase a Stat point's value beyond +5. For instance, if two symbols increase STR by +3 and +4 respectively, the total STR value increase cannot exceed +5. On the other hand, there is no such limit when a Stat point's value is decreased, although it is impossible to reduce it all the way to zero.
Not all symbols can be used by all classes. The following limitations apply:

In order to remove a symbol, you need to speak to a Symbol Maker. Symbols can be removed for a certain fee, and once removed, half of the unit quantity of the Dye used to engrave the symbol is refunded.
